We Care
Giving back has always been a part of our culture. Our VG Cares philanthropy program continues to help our neighborhoods the same way our founders did 50 years ago. Each year, Village Green apartment communities participate in multiple local charity events. They bring residents, associates, and our preferred vendors and suppliers together to raise awareness and funds for local non-profit organizations such as Ronald McDonald House Charities, Toys for Tots and Animal Welfare groups. Village Green also encourages every associate to help an organization they are personally passionate about with our 10,000 Hours program, providing a paid day off to volunteer when, where and how they choose. This is how Living Social changes lives for the better – including our own.
Every year, Village Green apartment communities all across the country join together to celebrate Spring and the opening of pool season with a fundraising event called SPLASH DAY. It’s a fun party for residents, associates and our preferred vendors and suppliers. In 2016, we raised and donated over $100,000 for local Ronald McDonald House Charities. SPLASH DAY began in 1991 when a Property Manager accepted a dare to jump into the community’s unheated pool if pledges were made and funds donated to a worthy cause. Twenty-five years later, the tradition has evolved to include caring people at over 150 properties vying to raise the most money, have the most fun and win the coveted SPLASH DAY CUP.
The name Village Green originally symbolized our creating and managing apartments that fostered a sense of community, much like the historic village greens of England. Today, it also represents our commitment to environmental sustainability and social responsibility. Being Green is now an integral part of our company culture. We consult with and assist owners in renovating existing communities and building new communities using environmentally-friendly materials and energy efficient products, often incorporating 24/7/365 business centers to enable reduced commuting, bike storage and repair facilities, green rooftops, and air and water quality programs. This is how we create environments for our residents to Live Green.
